Banffshire's unspoilt coastline offers many stunning, often deserted, beaches, some with long stretches of clean golden sand, others with rocky cliffs and shingle. You don't need to go more than a stone's throw from the cottage to find your own beautiful, secluded beach and Pennan beach is just around the corner, with its pretty village, pub and Local Hero's famous red 'phone box. New Aberdour beach has sea caves to explore. |

This is Scotland's dolphin coast and is an excellent area for spotting dolphins, porpoises, minke whales, orca, seals and even humpbacked whales. You are quite likely to see dolphins and seals from the beach by the cottage - bring binoculars. |

There are plenty of castle to visit in the vicinity. Spend a day at Ballindalloch, home of the MacPherson-Grants since 1546, a real fairy tale castle with beautiful gardens, or at Fyvie Castle, now run by the National Trust , equally impressive and also with lovely gardens. Huntly Castle has four ruined floors to explore, along with bakehouse, brewery and dungeon. |

Macduff Aquarium was justly awarded an 'Icon of Scotland' award by VisitScotland, housing a unique exhibition of fish, invertebrates and seaweeds usually only experienced by donning wetsuit and tank. The Georgian town of Banff with its lovely architecture and harbour is a great place to visit.. | |
The nearby Pennan inn does good, local food as well as an excellent Thai green curry. New Pisligo Arms Hotal has an interesting menu with flavours from all over the world and The Harbour Restaurant, Gardenstown serves delicious meals in a lovely setting with a great atmosphere. |
