Cosy and romantic cottage in beautiful location not far from Fort William, sleeps 2

The Old Byre is a delightful self catering holiday cottage perfect for two with excellent attention to detail, from the bathroom with roll top bath, luxury toiletries, fluffy bathrobes and underfloor heating to keep you cosy on the coldest winter day, to the beautifully dressed king sized bed and the open-plan living area with blazing log fire and comfortable leather arm chairs.
At the other end of the open-plan living area, a nicely appointed kitchen with granite worktops and a Belfast sink holds everything you might need for your escape to the Highlands: washer and tumble-dryer for dealing with those mud spattered clothes after a day exploring loch and mountain and a ceramic hob and oven, perfect for cooking up a delicious dinner in your romantic hideaway.

The natural heavy roof timbers of the original byre are still evident and are nicely complemented by cedar panelling, tiled floors and cosy rugs. All in all, a perfect romantic retreat ideal for exploring the west coast and all of its rugged countryside delights.

A stone's throw from the centre of Fort William (the outdoor capital of Scotland) The Old Byre is set in delightful isolation above the town. Walkers are spoilt for choice right from the front door; the house is set on a wee knoll with splendid open countryside views, just a mile or so along the single track road leading to the hamlet of Blarmafoldach. At the end of this road you come to the wonderfully remote Loch Lundavra where (should the adventurous spirit take you) you can take a rowing boat out and fish for wild brown trout.

Fort William itself has an enviable position on the edge of the Linnhe Loch with a host of attractions and the biggest munro in Scotland towering majestically over the town, making a day's walking an absolute must. There are some great outdoor shops along the high street, selling any and every piece of walking and climbing gear your heart could desire. The Grog and Gruel pub, also on the High Street serves an extensive selection of Scottish real ales and is well worth a visit for some local colour. A great way of exploring the Linnhe Loch itself is to take a cruise from the pier and see the amazing wildlife including the resident family of porpoises and grey seals and perhaps a majestic golden eagle.

Whatever else you do while you are staying near Fort William don’t miss the Jacobite Express taking in one of the most beautiful steam railway journeys in the world, from Fort William to Mallaig along the very edge of the west coast. Following the road to the Western Isles, it passes Ben Nevis on one side and the beautiful Loch of Morrar on the other, with silvery beeches and the delightful villages of Lochailort and Arisaig on the way.
