Luxury Fife cottage - horses welcome - sleeps 8

Luxury, modern self catering with a lovely view and excellent facilities for bringing your own horse

Set in beautiful, rolling farmland backed by woodland and hills, this lovely, modern holiday cottage is perfectly placed for those who enjoy walking, cycling or indeed would like to bring their own horse on holiday with them, with a network of quiet, scenic routes right on the doorstep, a paddock, excellent outdoor storage facilitites and a utility area for wet or mucky boots or clothing.

The house has been built to make the most of the lovely view and to let in lots of light, with spacious, comfortable accommodation, smart, new furniture and cosy central heating with an additional woodstove for a comforting, warm glow. I love the fact that whever you sit, there's a window to look out through and I love the sociable, open plan living area with its tall windows and vaulted ceiling, where more light streams in through velux roof lights. The decor is simple and chic, with black, white and cream complemented by warm, natural wood.

Quickly lured outside by the lovely view from the cottage, we discover a neatly decked area surrounded by a very pleasant garden which is a perfect place to laze around and relax on a warm day or enjoy a barbecue in the evening. All this luscious countryside is just waiting to be explored - I don't have a horse or pony , but I do love cycling and I relish the opportunity to pack a picnic, jump straight on the bike and pedal off on quiet tracks for a day out with no traffic to worry about.

A short walk or bike ride away from the holiday cottage is the Royal Burgh of Culross, a special wee coastal town packed with historic buildings and atmosphere and not to be missed. Wandering around the cobbled streets of a once thriving port, you get a feel for what it must have been like long ago. The National Trust has done a good job of restoring some of the ancient buildings and conserving the area and visitors can explore the beautifully refurbished 16th century palace and garden before enjoying tea and cakes in the recently revamped Bessie'sTearoom.

On our wanderings through the town, we stumbled upon Culross Pottery, an intriguing place on the waterside, full of interesting local art and crafts with a gallery and shop, resident potters and the Biscuit Cafe, selling delcious organic food. Loaded up with culinary treats to take back up the road to the cottage, we'll worry about working off the calories tomorrow, when we'll jump back on our bikes and set off exploring again. We have a lovely relaxing evening ahead of us, sitting by the fire, putting our feet up and enjoying the green hills and late, golden sky from the windows.

Further details about this accommodation

The accommodation comprises four bedrooms (two en-suite), bathroom, large living room, kitchen, utility room, toilet and integral double garage.
The cottage is suitable for the assisted disabled with few steps, room for wheelchairs and a family bathroom with no-step shower cubicle.

Living Room
The spacious living room features a cathedral type ceiling with velux windows in an open plan living area.
Comfortably furnished, it has large picture windows looking out over rolling farmland and woods to the hills. The whole house is centrally heated but the wood burning stove makes it even cosier on cold days.

Bedrooms
Two of the bedrooms are en-suite and have zip and link beds which make either super-king sized beds or two single beds. The other two bedrooms have twin beds.

Bathroom
The bathroom contains a bath, shower, toilet suite and wash hand basin. The low step shower makes it suitable for disabled assisted.

Kitchen
The modern kitchen is well-equipped with electric hob and oven, microwave cooker, dishwasher and all the conveniences that you would expect as well of course as sufficient cutlery and crockery for 8 people.

Utility Room
The utility room is adjacent to the back door so that muddy clothes can go straight into the washing machine. It is comprehensively equipped with washing machine, tumble-dryer and drying facilities.

Toilet

There is another toilet adjacent to the kitchen and utility room which is handy for the back door - no need to traipse through the house from the paddock or garden or for that busy time in the morning.

Garden
The garden provides a relaxing space to laze around either during the day or evening or if the weather’s warm enough, why not have a barbecue? Just bring your own charcoal.

Garage/Games Room
The large integral garage provides space to store bicycles, riding gear and any other equipment and has plenty of room for games on wet days! There is also a pool table, football table and air hockey table. A small selection of bikes are available for your use, please ask for more details.

Paddock

We are in the BHS Horses Welcome scheme and the cottage is surrounded by good riding country. We always have a grass field nearby suitable for horses or ponies so why not bring your own horses on holiday with you? We have parking for horse boxes and trailers and an all weather sand arena.
Our top 5 reasons why you would choose to stay here
hotel There are some lovely walks right from the door of the cottage. Well worth doing and not too strenuous is the Culross Heritage Walk which explores this lovely 16th/17th/18th century coastal town with its quaint streets and historic buildings, palace and abbey. It's just a two mile walk along a quiet road from the cottage to Culross.
hotel There are miles of off road cycling on the doorstep, from a short hour's ride to a full day. The fairly flat and entirely off road West Fife Cycleway passes close to the cottage and provides eight miles of cycleway suitable for both adults and children. This connects to the Kingdom of Fife Millenium Cycle Ways, which consists of over 300 miles of routes along quiet roads, disused railways lines and forest tracks.
self catering A double garage and plenty of parking space mean that there is plenty of room for a horsebox and all your riding equipment here and there is a grass field available as well as an indoor arena. Easy access to a lovely network of bridleways makes this a great place to bring your own horse.
hotel The nearby, attractive Royal Burgh of Culross is rich in history with its ancient cobbled lanes and buildings, many of which have been restored by the National Trust - much of the village is now a conservation area. Interesting buildings to visit include The Palace, built in the 16th century; 13th-century Culross Abbey; The Study and the Town House (both 17th century).
hotel The Red Lion pub at Culross and the Carnock Inn both do good pub grub. For tasty teas and lunches in a lovely spot, visit the Muircot Farm Shop or for an excellent dinner, The Unicorn 17th century coaching Inn in Kincardine.
