Elegant, spacious period holiday house with lovely garden
Rising impressively from lush plains through which the river Forth lazily meanders, Stirling Castle stands majestic above stunning, natural crags around which the ancient city is clustered. Gateway to the Highlands, Stirling sits right in the middle of the country with the wonderful backdrop of the Ochils on one side and the Trossachs on the other; you can see why this was once the capital of Scotland.
In the south of this fascinating city, just beyond the former royal hunting grounds of King's Park in a pleasant and leafy suburb, an elegant Edwardian family home makes an excellent base for a Scottish self catering holiday. Within walking distance of the city centre, castle, historic buildings and shops, its position is just perfect for exploring the city of Stirling and the wonderful surrounding countryside as well as being within very comfortable driving distance of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Loch Lomond and the Highlands.
Turning up the driveway, we find plenty of parking for several cars and a large enclosed garden with lovely trees and shrubs, ideal for children, dogs and adults to let off steam or relax. I can see right away why people come back here again and again and it's not just the delicious cupcakes that are waiting in the kitchen on arrival! The house is just the place for a gathering of family or friends of all ages, with plenty of space to spread out, get lost, or socialise together. Our hosts are congenial, welcoming allcomers from tots to canine companions with pleasure and are keen to ensure a flawless and enjoyable stay without being in any way instrusive.
With the luxury of two spacious, attractive and comfortable living rooms (one with Sky TV), a large family kitchen complete with range and a lovely smart dining room, there is no shortage of living space and twelve people can very comfortably live here together without being on top of each other. The same goes for upstairs, with six very good sized, attractive bedrooms to choose from as well as two bathrooms and a further shower room downstairs. Furnishings and decor are in keeping with the period of the house; beautiful curtains drape the tall sash windows and original fireplaces grace many of the rooms so that on cooler evenings we can sit by the flickering flames of an open fire in true Edwardian style. |
