The area is a haven for walkers of all abilities. There are several Munros nearby, including Perthshire’s highest Ben Lawers, majestic Schiehallion and, just behind the cottage, a circuit of four, known as the Glen Lyon Horseshoe. There are also many riverside and woodland walks in the area, including beautiful gorge walks at Kerrowmore Woods near Bridge of Balgie and the The Birks in Aberfeldy. |
The quiet, softly undulating roads around the cottage are perfect for cycling for all levels and, for experienced cyclists, lead to some beautiful circular routes over mountain passes and alongside lochs and rivers. Bicycles can be hired in both Kenmore and Aberfeldy. |
The area is excellent for a huge variety of outdoor activities for all the family. There are several 9 and 18 hole golf courses nearby and quality trout and salmon fishing on the River Tay and River Lyon. Pony trekking, quad biking, white water rafting, canoeing and other water sports can all be arranged through a number of local activity centres. |
Woodland wildlife such as red squirrels, deer, hedgehogs and owls can be seen right by the cottage. Highland Safaris, based in Aberfeldy, offer a huge range of wildlife safaris by landrover, foot or bike, either on mountain or forest terrain, lasting anything up to a whole day. Spot red deer, black grouse, mountain hares and golden eagles. |

The Fortingall Hotel has two AA rosettes for their award winning cuisine using locally sourced produce. It is excellent for dinner in the restaurant or a more relaxed meal in the bar. The hotel also serves coffees and drinks throughout the day which, in good weather, can be enjoyed in the delightful beer garden. The Glen Lyon Tea Room at Bridge of Balgie serves delicious home made soups, sandwiches, cakes and scones. The tearoom looks out over the River Lyon and there are plenty of tables outside to sit and enjoy the view. |
