Sutherland remote self catering Scotland

Traditional lodge house and two stone built bothy style cottages in a beautiful, remote wilderness reserve in Sutherland, sleep 14, 4, 8

Among mountains, forests, broad winding rivers, acre upon acre of wilderness is inhabited by normally elusive wildlife and in the midst of this beautiful, remote countryside, we find a stunning, elegant lodge house just waiting to offer us the most fantastic stay up here in the north of Scotland.

Alladale Lodge can be what you want it to be - a wonderful venue for a family holiday, luxurious accommodation for a special celebration, or a superb location for a business conference. Catering-wise, we take care of everything for you, with pre-arranged menus and snacks to suit your parties prefrences. If your party is larger than fourteen, there are two smaller cottages on the reserve which offer further excellent accommodation for twelve more people.

In the main lodge, six spacious and elegant bedrooms can be set up with twin or king size beds, while downstairs is an accessible double - all have ensuite bathrooms with lovely fluffy towels and robes and organic toiletries. The beautifully furnished reception rooms include a grand dining room, lovely sunny drawing room, snooker room, snug, cinema room, and even a large gym and sauna. When I go into a house, I automatically look for the piano and when on holiday, this is usually missing but here - amazingly - it's the first thing I notice on entering the drawing room - and it's in tune and sounds good! There'll be so much to do inside on wet days, lazy days and long evenings.

Staying in a wilderness reserve, we expect to be in a remote and beautiful place and of course, to see plenty of wildlife and we are not disappointed. The views in all directions are stunning and we can step out and walk straight into the glorious countryside. The wildlife is all here, too - not just red deer, squirrels and wild salmon, but even Scottish wild cats and - a sight that for me is heart-stopping - golden eagles soaring high on enormous wings.

Innes and his friendly and knowledgeable team will take groups on wildlife treks on foot or by 4x4, as well as organising salmon fishing and clay pigeon shooting - their gentle enthusiasm is infectious. Once here in this remote, rugged paradise, there's really no need at all to go anywhere else during your stay- and the best thing is, you can enjoy a luxury break here while knowing that the owner and staff are all dedicated to protecting and improving the local ecosystem and wildlife as well as helping to preserve our environment with a hydro electric turbo system.
