Our top 5 reasons why you would choose to stay at The Stonehouses
Seldom a week goes by when there is not live music in the pubs and arts centres in Ullapool. Renowned Scottish musicians and up and coming national (and even international) talent make Ullapool a stop on Scottish tours. In summer season and at Christmas and New Year there will be numerous live bands to enjoy every week. The Macphail Centre is a venue for annual visits by Scottish Ballet, chamber orchestras and theatre companies.
Take leisurely strolls along the beach, perhaps picking up a few mussels for lunch as you go. Forage for free food - a great Ullapool pastime - whelks and razor clams or “spoots” as they are known locally are plentiful, as are wood sorrel and chanterelles. The very active can tackle some of the Munros in the area. |

Seals and otters are frequently sighted along the coast and more occasionally dolphins and whales. Sea, moor and forest birdlife and numerous deer are to be seen around Ullapool. At Inverpolly National Nature Reserve you might be lucky enough to catch sight of pine martens, wildcats, buzzards or golden eagles. |
|
Within easy striking distance of Ullapool are plenty of secluded and scenic golden sand beaches including Gruinard Bay, Achnahaird, Achmelvich, Clachtoll and Clashnessie. |

There are many good small restaurants and hotels in Ullapool, including The Arch Inn, which does great Sunday roasts, seafood and a good choice of vegetarian meals. I'm a great fan of fish and chips - where better to have it than in one of the best fish and chip shops in Scotland: Deli-Ca-Sea. |
