Traditional cottages on a remote island between the Isle of Skye and the Applecross Peninsula on the west coast of Scotland with magnificent views over to Skye, Raasay and the mainland.

Your holiday begins even before you arrive at the Island of Scalpay. You cannot help but fall in love with the beauty Scotland has to offer for a romantic break or a family escape. No holiday could begin better than with a drive through the stunning Loch Cluanie and then on through the mouth of Loch Duich before driving up the Isle of Skye and sailing over to your destination. This easy paced transition from the mainland to an isolated island does allow you to experience what life is like for the lucky few who escape our frantic modern existence.

On the Isle of Scalpay thefew inhabitants have their own pace of life to do their own thing. It is easy to imagine forgetting all concept of time in a place so wonderfully isolated.

The islanders here are hugely self sufficient, there are no roads or island shops on Scalpay. Even if there were, there are only a handful of vehicles on the Island anyway.

Imagine, instead of your weekly visit to the shops, foraging, hunting and fishing for your dinner. Do you see yourself picking vegetables fresh from the earth instead off the shelves? While on Scalpay you become a member of the community for the duration of your stay, encouraged to become involved in all seasonal aspects of Island life from sheering sheep and feeding lambs to vegetable and fruit picking.

The destination is truly second to none, the modern accommodation gives you the perfect atmosphere to unwind in after all the possible adventures in such a tranquil area of Scotland. Garden Cottage

In the peaceful gardens of Scalpay House near Skye, this luxury self catering holiday cottage has an uninterrupted sea view and is ideal for honeymoon couples or a small family.

The large area of foreshore at the front of this holiday cottage is excellent for hill walking, painting or bird watching when in the summer months many varieties of migratory birds come to feed and nest on Scalpay.

Children love to gather all sorts of live creatures from the many rock pools found near the Garden Holiday Cottage.

Keeper's Cottage

Right on the beach in a superb position just 20 metres from the sea, the Keepers holiday cottage is a favourite amongst guests. This self catered cottage sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms, with 2 bathrooms, generously spaced living areas and a cloakroom. The Keepers is a classic holiday cottage which has just been refurbished to the highest standards, offering a stunning but relaxed and comfortable home-away-from-home feel.

The layout of the cottage provides thoughtful accommodation allowing guests to enjoy the beach, garden and views to maximum effect. The Keepers Holiday Cottage has plenty of traditional character, with pine beams and a comforting glass fronted wood burning stove. The wonderful sea facing conservatory offers a perfect opportunity to relax, sip wine and watch the evening sun turn the hills majestic red.

Set on a point overlooking the sea towards Applecross and the mainland, the Kyle of Lochalsh and the Isle of Skye. The self catering cottage is reached by track from the main house (approx 1/3rd of mile).

Directions and Travel

When you arrive on the Isle of Skye you will be able to leave your car at the point where you will meet the private boat to take you across to Scalpay. The boat trip to Scalpay is a 10 - 15 minute journey and your cottage rental price includes the crossings at 5 p.m. at the beginning and 10 a.m. at the end of your stay on Scalpay. Further boat trips can be booked directly and are charged at £20 each way to Skye and £20 per hour for any sea excursions or fishing trips.
