Sea View Cottage Scotland - luxury seaside holiday cottages Skye - sleeps 6

Brand new modern holiday home with superb views across the Sound of Sleat to the Highlands of the Scottish Mainland

A short, delightful drive from the Skye Bridge into the heart of the lush, gently undulating Sleat Peninsula known as the garden of Skye brings me to the idyllic spot where a wonderful work in progress is taking shape and will soon be ready to welcome guests for a perfect Isle of Skye holiday.

The romantic stone ruin of the orginal croft house which has provided hearth and home for generations in this wonderful position now has the company of an architect designed eco home based on the original whitehouse style but transformed into a comfortable, modern home filled with light and space. From its stunning location on a hillside above Knock Bay, this luxurious, eco-friendly holiday home enjoys the most glorious views across the bay and the Sound of Sleat to the stunning mountains of the Highlands on the other side.

Framing the wonderful view has been a design priority, so the house has many full length picture windows and roof lights which flood the whole place with light and allow guests to enjoy the everchanging moods and colours of the sea, sky and landscape outside. Inside, comfort and style, alongside sustainability are the design hallmarks.

Floors are heated using ground source heat while a wood burning stove gives a focal point as well as an extra warm glow, so the weather can do its worst outside while guests remain cosy and warm. A mid-century Scandinavian influence is apparent in the stylish interior; decor is subtle and muted, providing a calm atmosphere perfect for relaxing when not enjoying the great outdoors; furnishings are of natural materials such as cotton, linen, leather, sheepskin and oak. Throughout, the feeling is of understated luxury and thoughtful design.

Unlike the more rugged parts of Skye, the Sleat Peninsula is sheltered, temperate and luxuriant; gardens flourish and some even boast exotic palm trees. Step out of the dining room onto the terrace and you may well have the pleasure of an al fresco drink or two on a balmy lunchtime or evening.

The finishing touches have now been made to this lovely property, adding elegant details and personal touches which enhance its simple, attractive style, subtle luxury and perfect location and make this brand new holiday home a very popular place to stay.

Our top five things to do while staying at Sea view Cottage Scotland
self catering in scotland walking

Whether it be modest hill walking or serious mountaineering, woodland walks or coastal rambles, Skye offers everything you could want. The Cuillins boasts 12 Munros among its 24 peaks, while the more accessible though equally spectacular Trotternish Ridge can be tackled by the less adventurous.

good area for sailing and boat trips

There are plenty of opportunities for hiring boats or for guided tours around Skye or to the mainland. Bella Jane and Safari offer trips from 45 minutes to a full day around Skye and the nearby small islands. It's best to check ahead during the winter season to see what's running.

historic castle

Visit Dunvegan Castle, the seat of the Clan MacLeod, steeped in history and reputedly the oldest inhabited castle in Scotland and Armadale Castle where the fascinating Clan Donald Centre can be found. Both have excellent gift shops and places to eat.

self catering scotland golf

The Gaelic Whiskies company, based at Eilean Iarmain, offers bottlings of local malts and blends and Skye has its own distillery at Talisker, making one of the finest single malts in the world – ‘the king o’ drinks’ according to Robert Louis Stevenson.

The Hotel Eilean and award-winning restaurant at the Duisdale House Hotel are only a short walk away, while Claire Macdonald’s Michelin-starred Kinloch Lodge and the excellent Toravaig House Hotel are just a five minute drive.
