No. 10 - luxury Skye self catering (sleeps 2)

Contemporary, stylish Isle of Skye self catering close to the sea, with stunning views

No. 10 boasts Isle of Skye self catering accommodation as dramatic as the landscape that wraps around it. The house is spectacularly located at the end of a single track road overlooking Loch Dunvegan where the first Lord of the Isles sailed to the apex and formed the settlement which now comprises Dunvegan Castle, home of the Clan MacLeod.

Diana who owns the property with husband Alan, is an artist and designer and she has brought all her artistic abilities to the design. For instance the bedroom has stained glass windows designed and created by Diana but placed in the east wall so that the morning light shines through them and illuminates the entire room, turning it into a scene from a Chagall painting.

Every sense is considered; the textiles are carefully chosen so that you also have a sensory experience. Even the subtle perfume of the old whisky barrel wood that has been used for the headboard is carefully considered. It is no accident that all the furniture fits so well; many pieces have been designed by Diana and crafted for No. 10, no expense has been spared to prepare this accommodation for you. The living area features vast windows and a wood burning stove. the seating and table once more designed by Diana bespoke for No. 10.

To concentrate on the house is to miss the point. The Isle of Skye is known throughout the world, made famous by the escape of Prince Charlie with Flora Macdonald after his defeat at Culloden in 1745 and as home of the MacCrimmons, the ancient masters of the bagpipes. Few of us were not touched by the stories of Gavin Maxwell's otter Midge  and just a few yards from No. 10 is a beach frequented by otters and seals. The otters play in the pools and the seals bask on the shore, passing the time of day whilst keeping a wary eye on the eagles that nest in the hills above the cottage.

"Think of cloud on Bheinn na Cailleach, jagged Cuillins soaring high, Scent of peat and all the glamour of the misty Isle of Skye!" ( A.M. Harbord).

I agree 100% with the guest that left this comment in the book:

'To those that come: turn off the phone, put the itinerary in the bin, hide the car keys, and breath this beautiful place in...enjoy!'.

Owners' Update: we have just completed our beach project, so the garden from Number Ten is now directly connected with the beach below the house. We have built a luxurious 'Hide' to relax in and observe our wild life, and all that the moods of the sea has to offer - with wood burning stove, relaxing chairs, sumptuous wraps and cushions for chillier nights.
