Dumfries and Galloway is unique in many ways, the beautiful scenery, the slow pace of life, the warm welcome the locals offer to tourists and 3 special towns. Kirkcudbright is the "Artists Town", Castle Douglas is Scotlands "Food Town" and Wigtown is Scotlands "Book Town" Together they are known as FAB (Food, Art and Books) The Barn at Glenturk sits on the outskirts of Wigtown adjacent to Glenturk farm, renowned for their excellent pedigree Limousin and Simmental Herds. The Barn at Glenturk consists of 2 self catering Wigtown properties, one sleeps up to 4 guests and the other up to 6.

The entrance is through a blank white wall, and slightly belies the view as you open the door to a wonderful open plan living room and once more through the patio doors to the green fields beyond. The barn was recently converted and has been transformed with lightness of touch that it maked me smile at the prospect of spending my time in such a clear environment. The furnishings are spare, luxurious and composed in such a large space that it surprises the unknowing.

Lynne and her son Graham have created a clean, crisp accommodation with inspired use of art by local Wigtown artists. This area is well populated by art studios and is famous not only for the booktown and the literary festivals but also by the "Spring Fling" which is a break when all the local artists open their studio doors and let the public see them and their work in the rawness of their home environment. There is lots of talent and some of it can be seen on these walls and it certainly adds to the effect of subdued clean comfort.

The sun shines through the the patio doors into south facing living room, an area with comfortable stylish soft leather sofas. There is underfloor heating throughout the ground floors which makes the early morning barefoot breakfast preparation thoroughly enjoyable. The patios on the other hand are the perfect place to delve into your new collection of books picked up in one of the many bookshops in Wigtown. My favourite bookshop was split on two levels although it was hard to see any structure of the building, absolutely every surface was covered in books, even the staircase was covered. Don't mention this purveyor of philavery to the health and safety guys, they will stop the never ending coffee pot and the ancient armchairs that becon me back for more

Wigtown Cottage sleeps 4, it has downstairs cloakroom, Kitchen and living area, there are patio doors that open to the limestone patio with views over the farmland. Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms 1 double with en-suite bath/shower room and 1 twin with en-suite shower room.

Galloway Cottage sleeps 6 - downstairs has a large open plan lounge that leads into fully fitted kitchen/dining area with patio doors onto the black limestone patio, also complete with its own garden furniture and barbeque. On the ground floor there is also a double bedroom with large adjacent bathroom with separate shower. This bedroom has patio doors onto the patio. Upstairs accommodation consists of one double bedroom with a small en-suite shower room and juliet balcony. The second bedroom upstairs in this Wigtown self catering holiday cottage is a twin bedded room with small en-suite shower room.

Changeover days are very flexible if you have dates that you prefer we can usually accommodate them.

So what is there to see and do close by ?

	The Barn at Glenturk is often used as a honeymoon destination, this luxury Wigtown self catering accommodation is beautifully designed and furnished and has that touch of luxury that is perfect for a romantic break in Scotland
	There are many interesting activities close by and there are a few equestrian centres, perfect for a hack in th country byeways or a gallop along the wide sandy beaches.
	Glenturk is close to the Whithorn Trail which is based on the ancient pilgrimage trail to visit the birthplace of Christanity.
	The fishing is good, the bladnoch river runs close to Wigtown and is a great fishing river for Trout and Salmon. The water is so pure that it is the source of Scotlands most southerly distillery - Bladnoch.
	Whithorn is the most important ancient building and archelogical site, it is point of introduction of Christianity in Scotland is currently an active site of archealogical interest.
	There are some excellent pubs in Wigtown, and are even possibly within walking distance from Glenturk self catering accommodation, if you have one too many
	Dumfries and Galloway is home to 5 of the 7 stanes, which are some of the best mountain bike routes in Europe. The closest is Kirroughtree about 20 minutes drive away.
	Wigtown is a good golf course, The Course lies on the shores of the scenic Luce Bay. On a clear day, looking South towards Luce Bay, the Isle of Man can be seen. The course is slightly over 6000 yards and is a test for both high and low handicap players, due to the differing directions of the sea breezes. The Course is also playable, on normal greens, throughout the winter.
