Trust House - Edinburgh Vacation Rental (sleeps 11)

I love to walk around the old town of Edinburgh with its cobbled streets and lively athmosphere of cafes and shops. Walking along West Bow is one of my favourites, Mellis, which is the finest cheese shop in Scotland heavy with stiff aromas. Slightly further down West Bow is Trust House itself, the entry is austere, the heavy door opening onto a stone staircase that imediately elevates you to the first floor.

The TV is full of property programs that talk about the "wow factor" and this house has it in spades. The house feels ancient, built in 1605 however most buildings we see that have a history like this can be hard to imagine what it was like in its original form but here it is all around you. The hand chiselled stone walls are still on show, the rich wooden floors and the ancient wooden panelling on some of the walls just exude the wealthy merchants house that this has aways been.

The accommodation is split into two apartments, it is possible to just rent the lower apartment that sleeps up to 5 (+2 bed settee) and if you do the upper one will not be rented out whilst you are there.

With these heavy stone walls it is suprising to me just how spacious this Edinburgh vacation rental is, every room is open and bright.

The lower apartment:-
The living room is grand with original stone fireplaces and very comfortable sofas that sit on a beautiful antique rug. In the corner is a writing bureau and sitting there writing your postcards has a view overlooking the hustle and bustle of West Bow. Adjacent to the well equipped kitchen is a small breakfast area that leads on to a vaulted banquet room which has a long antique dining table surrounded by stone walls draped with tapestrys and weavings that evoke lively conversations of trading by the latter Renaissance merchants that enabled Edinburgh to have such a rapid period of growth in the 17th century. The lower apartment also has the most distinctive double bedroom with a grand four poster bed. This room is large with stone walls and vaulted ceiling and lots of space, I particularly love the modern touches like the glass shelves that dissappear into the stonework. This room also has a walk in dressing room (with single bed) and a lovely victorian bathroom.

The upper apartment ...
Further up the wide stone staircase is the upper apartment, this sleeps 4 (2 in a twin and 2 in sofa bed) has a small kitchenette and dining area for 4, plus a lovely drawing room with 2 large sofas.
