Isle of Skye Self Catering

Lochside self-catering - Sleeps 10 (+2) in 5 bedrooms

When I first approached carbost I thought it was the prettiest village in Scotland. Just a small collection of buildings overlooking the Loch which is slso the home of Talisker whiskey, Carbost boasts one of scotland's best holiday homes.

It has been designed to take full advantage of it's lochside location. The timber veranda overhangs the sea, if you leave a window open, you will feel the sea breeze and hear the waves crashing on the rocks below.

The main living area incorporates a large full height glass facade overlooking the sea where you can watch the ever-changing seascape and spectacular mountain scenery from the comfort of your sofa.

There is a private 40 meter timber decked pontoon leading off a veranda that surrounds the house. The owner says that some guests have their own yacht and moor up here to spend their holiday sailing the waters around Skye. Living here with the prospect of dining on the verandah watching the sun set with a warm glass of Talisker, and taking breakfast on the pomtoon in the middle of the Loch or fishing or throwing in the odd lobster pot, or even just relaxing reading a book or taking in the scenery, the possibilities are very attractive.

There is abundance of wildlife on your doorstep, such as Seals, Otters, Sea Eagles, Cormorants, Herons and the occasional Dolphin.

The Lodge has 5 bedrooms and accommodates 10 people comfortably. The Master bedroom has its own bath / shower en-suite, two walk-in wardrobes and an East facing balcony that captures the morning sun over the Cuillins.

Sinking into a comfortable leather sofa you can relax and enjoy the 180 degrees panoramic sea and mountain views, no matter what time of the year it is. There are two heather coloured leather corner sofas giving comfortable seating for 10 . There is also a wood burning stove to complete the atmosphere.

Elena has just told me that there is a new addition to the Lodge - an outside wood fired hot tub, bespoke and made from reclaimed Whiskey vat timbers, so scented with malt whiskey! It is 4 feet deep, seats up to 8 people.
